A
SEP-IRA is the simplest plan to establish and administer. In fact, SEP is an
acronym for "simplified employee pension". The simplicity and
flexibility of SEP's make them a very attractive retirement plan for small
business owners with variable earnings who want a retirement plan that provides
minimal IRS filings and paperwork.
In a SEP plan, the employer simply contributes to employees' SEP-IRA. If an
employee has not established a SEP-IRA, the employer requests that the employee open one.
Once the employer makes a contribution to the employee, SEP-IRA rules control the employee's retirement account.
